Kim is a Sophmore at Colgate University and she is involved in the food club on campus called Spoon University. "I enjoy taking pictures of food in Hamilton as well as writing articles about it too!"
Fun fact about Colgate University: Colgate's lucky number is 13. It is said that Colgate was founded by 13 men who each offered 13 dollars and 13 prayers. Therefore the biggest holiday celebrated on campus and through alumni is Friday the 13th ... a.k.a. COLGATE DAY.
Favorite Ice Cream Parlour and Flavor: Maxwells Chocolates and Ice Cream and Birthday Cake Milkshake.
Bakery and Favorite Sweet: Flour and Salt and they have amazing birthday cakes!
Where to Grab a Coffee or Tea: Saxbys at the Barge. It is also an amazing spot to get some work done.
Burger Joint and Fries: Number 10 Tavern. My personal favorite is the chipotle burger.
Pizzeria: New York Pizzeria (a.k.a SLICES). Slices come plain only at New York Pizzeria...ask anyone on campus it is a fan favorite. Slices is known for its dipping sauces. They have about 8 different flavors to dip your pizza into... the favorites are ranch and/or buffalo sauce.
Diner and Favorite Dish: Suzy's Place, Chocolate chip pancakes.
Lunch Spot: The Hamilton Eatery has really good sandwiches, famous for their mac and cheese, and great salads as well.
Hottest Mexican Spot and Recommended Plate: La Iguana. They have some of the best guacamole/burritos I have ever had. Also, they are known for their margaritas.
Breakfast Spot with a friend or date: Flour and Salt. They sell amazing bagels, pastries, and breakfast sandwiches not to mention the inside will make you want to sit in there all day. The Bacon, egg and avocado breakfast sandwich on an everything bagel is a must have on a Saturday or Sunday morning. Flour and Salt is relatively new to Hamilton. A Colgate alumni from Chester New Jersey founded it.
Where you would love your parents to take you for Parents weekend: The Seven Oaks Clubhouse. Though Colgate may be a small university it actually has one of the best College golf courses in the U.S. Along with the golf course comes the clubhouse with their AMAZING food. I recommend the chicken parm pasta as well as the teriyaki chicken wings.
Things to do:
Where to go for Yoga, Exercise Classes, or the Gym: Trudy Fitness Center on campus has some of the best yoga/spin/martial arts/ barre classes I've ever been to. Whether you just want to work out on your own or in a class, the state of the art gym on campus is the place to be.
Best Dive Bar: The Jug - the Jug is no doubt the place to be downtown.
Neighborhood Bookstore: Colgate Bookstore. Located right in the center of downtown.
Where to Stay: Colgate Inn. The newly renovated Colgate Inn is one of the most charming inn's you will ever stay in. With the beautiful rooms, amazing dining, and big bar you can't go wrong. I recommend having brunch at the Colgate Inn on Sunday. The toll house cookie pie from the Colgate Inn (also served at the clubhouse) is a staple dessert for everyone at Colgate. It's basically just cookie dough in pie form. Patricia's Bed and Breakfast right down the road is a gorgeous hotel-like alternative.
Tell us more!:
Unfortunately, Hamilton does not have a sushi spot but to make up for that we have a delicious Indian spot. The Royal Indian Grill is definitely the go-to spot for any group dinner in town. And of course, if you've ever toured Colgate you have gotten a chance to have the Byrne Dairy ice cream sandwich. Another staple of Colgate!
Although Colgate is in a small town in Upstate New York it has some of the best food places around! Colgate definitely sums up the idea of quality over quantity and you can't go wrong when eating downtown.
